Reuse, Recycle and Relove – Tabletop Sale – Saturday 30th March 2024

On Saturday, 30 March the Museum is holding another “ Reuse, Recycle and Relove” sale.

The first such sale in March 2023, raised over £500 for the Museum. The Old School Hall will be open to the public to browse and buy second hand books, puzzles, games and homewares.

If you have any books, puzzles games and homewares you wish to donate, please think of the Museum. Donations of items will be accepted from March 1st at the Museum shop during Museum opening hours.

The ‘Potty about our Pottery’ exhibition focuses on the weird, wonderful and creative world of ceramics through the eyes of Victorian potter Edward Bingham of Castle Hedingham and the collection of over 80 pieces the Museum holds of his life and work.

Other ceramics in the collection, including those used for functional purposes to decorative designs which tell the District’s story, will also be on display. Several pieces displayed are on loan from the private collection at Hedingham Castle.

The exhibition also features works by local potters, Colin Saunders and Peter Harrington, as well as two pieces hand-picked by Sir Grayson Perry from his collection.

In December 2023 we held a Chat and Nibbles event – this was a first for the Friends!

As there is no Talk in December, we thought it might be fun to hold an informal social evening and raise some money for the Friends’ funds.

As you can see it was very successful. Some 50 people filled the hall and were entertained by the Ukulele band. They were great and there was plenty of joining in and singing along!

The hall looked Christmassy and we provided drinks and a buffet as well as nibbles on the tables. Janis Collis provided an Essex Place Name quiz which folk worked on together and was a good focal point of the evening.

It was a very happy evening and a big thank you goes to those of you who came and the committee members who worked hard to make it a success. We raised over £450.00.
